What is a peer support network?
Peer support is a loosely structured way of getting help and, in exchange, supporting other people. It aims to create bonds and bridges between people with unique and common experiences, changing how people support each other.
How does it work?
Diversityworks’ Peer Support Network is an informal collective of people committed to shared learning and empowerment. The network uses a mix of face-to-face meetings, Skype and phone chats, texting, online chats and social networking (blogs, forums, Facebook and Twitter) to keep people in touch. We also run workshops, with topics prioritised by network members.
Will it work for me?
You never know until you try! Peer support is ideal if you are disabled, young, a parent, gay, lesbian or questioning, a migrant, a whanau or family member. It’s the place to come for support that's empowering and life enhancing, when formal systems let you down.
How do I join the network?
Sign up to the website here, email peersupport@diversityworks.org.nz, text 021 26 46 154, Skype dwpeersupport or leave a voicemail on 09 88 99 015. We’ll be in touch within 48 hours.
